RESIDENTS OF WESLEY HOUSE 

​Residents of Wesley House from the first Census 1841.
 
Census 1841
This census reports only one result and this is 12 year old Cattle Driver, Thomas Rigby.
 
Census 1851
 Head of the House was John Meyrick, 34 and a Shoe Maker                      
Caroline Meyrick 11, Sarah Meyrick 9, Robert Meyrick 6, all three attended school.
Charlotte Meyrick 3. There is no record of John Meyricks wife on this census.
 
Census 1861
Interestingly 10 years later, the house has just 2 lodgers.
Richard Elsmere, 70 a Retired Farmer from Upton Magna, and James Jones aged 47, a local Butcher.             

Census 1871
Quite a houseful on census day in 1871.
Head of house Ann Usher was a Dress Maker from Shipston On Stour, her 8 year old niece, Ann Skidmore, who was born in Litchfield was also living with her.                          
Mary Edwards 19, was a Domestic Servant and from the original census file it appears that she was a working as a Servant at this residence.                               
Caroline Hennings, 18 a Shoe Binder from Clakenwell, London was lodging here.                                    
Mary Roberts, 68 born in Shrewsbury was a Parish Pay. 
Henry Perks, aged 58 is cited as a Tin Plate Worker         
 
1881 Census
 The Head of the house was Henry Perks. He was 68, born in Shrewsbury in approximately 1813.
He was a Tinplate Worker.
Widower, Sarah Owen aged 32, who we assume is the daughter of Henry was also born in Shrewsbury and worked as a Charwoman.
Sarah has her 17 year old son, William living with her, he at this time was a Farm Labourer.
Also residing at Welsey House were Sarah Mansargh, a 70 year old Dressmaker, Carters widow Sarah Davis aged 74, and a child of 7 years John Rogers. John it appears was visiting the house the day the cenus was taken.
 Sarah Davies, has her daughter, Martha Bennett living with her, she is 30 and also a widow. Martha has a daughter named Emmie and a son, William.
Additionally living at this address in 1881 is a 65 Railway Servant widow, Eliza Lloyd.
             
 
Census 1891
 James Tucker,  46.  Head  of the house from  Devizes, Wiltshire was a Printer, his wife Charlotte Tucker, 44 was born in         Silsboro, Staffordshire. 
Their children are listed as follows,  Edwin Tucker  13  a Print Compositor was born in Wolverhampton. Henry 16, Frederick 14, Ada 12 and William 10 were all born in Birmingham. Arthur 4 and George 1 both born in Shrewsbury.                     

 
Census 1901
William Lutwyche,  47.  Head of the house was House Painter, as was his son Wallace aged 19. 
This wife was Elizabeth, 45. Children, Florence, 17, Arthur 13, Adeline 8 and William 6.                    
             
Census 1911
10 years later the same family are still living here.
